Capodanno Medievale (New Year Medieval Celebration)

from December 26, 2010 to January 01, 2011
Montagnana

Every year on the end of  December in Montagnana, an ancient ritual is celebrated, evoking the long night of the New Year's Eve. The town returns to its past and celebrates the New Year's arrival with a great medieval party. Rituals, melodies and recalls of ancient times are brought back.

Montagnana is a charming walled-city of the 14th century. Its mighty battlemented walls is more than 2 kilometers long and includes 24 towers and several defensive works, such as "The Castle of Saint Zeno" and "The Fortress of the Trees". The city wall is considered one of the greatest examples of medieval military architecture in Europe.

On special occasions the town returns to its past. Parade in period costume, banners, flag bearers, archers, artists and musicians, weapons and costumes; attempt to reproduce images and sound of the middle ages.
